WHAT IS A SCION?
A scion is a young shoot or branch that is cut from one variety of plant, in this case to be grafted (joined) onto the rootstock of a different variety. The two will grow together, resulting in a plant with the desirable traits of the rootstock, but bearing the fruit of your chosen scion.
You may be surprised to learn that almost all apple & pear trees are grown this way, even if it isn’t not noted on the nursery tag!
